MATCH RECAP: MatSu United Fight Hard in 0-4 Loss to Arctic Rush

MSUFC lose out in season opener
Published Jun 28, 2020

MatSu United FC (0-1-0) got their 2020 UPSL Last Frontier Conference season underway on Sunday afternoon with a difficult 0-4 loss against Anchorage-based Arctic Rush (1-1-0).

A third minute opener from Rush put MSUFC behind early, and a second goal just four minutes later left MatSu with a mountain to climb. The MatSu boys were up for the first half challenge though, as they adapted quickly and started to grow into the game, fighting hard in order to make it to halftime without conceding again to keep Arctic Rush’s lead within striking distance.

MatSu United’s second half efforts took a significant blow in the 55th minute, when both Elijah Hall and Elijah Crawford were forced out of the game through injury. Arctic Rush capitalized shortly after, bagging their third goal of the game in the 61st minute. A rough afternoon for MSUFC was made worse late into the second half, when Rush converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute to bring the game to its final scoreline: MatSu United 0, Arctic Rush 4.

MatSu United will have a chance to bounce back from this result in two weeks, when they take on Alaska Timbers away at Kincaid Soccer Stadium in Anchorage on July 12th at 6:15pm.

The entire MatSu United FC staff wishes our three injured players, Elijah Hall, Elijah Crawford, and Adam Mruk, speedy recoveries after an unfortunately injury-riddled game.
